Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Announce Restructuring

ATLANTA, GA (May 27, 2009) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced a restructuring of state parks and historic sites as a result of a nearly 39% reduction in state appropriations and 24% projected loss of revenue.

Comment Sought on New Invasives Species Plan

A draft plan that targets more than 180 invasive species threatening Georgia's rich variety of native wildlife is available for public comment.
The Georgia Invasive Species Strategy describes the complex scope of problems posed by non-native plants, animals and disease-causing organisms and proposes ways to lessen the impacts in a state ranked sixth in the nation in biological diversity.
Governor Perdue Recommends Chris Clark as DNR Commissioner

ATLANTA, GA (05-NOV-08) Governor Sonny Perdue today announced that Chris Clark, Executive Director of the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA), is his recommended choice to succeed Noel Holcomb as Commissioner of DNR when Holcomb retires in April 2009. Commissioner Holcomb announced to the Board of Natural Resources his retirement plans at the September meeting of the DNR Board.

Governor Perdue Signs Water Plan Into Law

The newly enacted plan will utilize the state's water resources in a sustainable manner; will support the state's economy, will protect public health and natural systems, and will enhance the quality of life for all citizens.

RSS ("Really Simple Syndication") is a way to easily distribute web content that changes regularly - such as a list of news headlines, update notices, and media - to an audience of users. RSS lets you easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites in which you are interested. You save time by not having to visit each site individually.
An RSS Feed shows a listing of a Web site's new content, which is updated when new content is published to the site. Feeds are gathered and read by RSS feed readers. RSS readers "subscribe" to RSS feed, which means they download lists of content at an interval that the user specifies (every 30 minutes, for example). Once you install your RSS Feed Reader, you will be able to subscribe to RSS feeds. You just need to subscribe to the appropriate RSS feed, and the information can be retrieved automatically at regular intervals or instantly with the click of a mouse.
To get started with an RSS Feed Reader, you have several options:
For RSS feed readers that you do not have to install on your computer, you can select from several Web-based feed readers. My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed readers.
The Georgia Technology Authority recommends Awasu or Sharpreader. For an in-browser feed reader try Sage for Firefox or Pluck for Internet Explorer. All these readers are free and easy to use.
