The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Law Enforcement Division Sergeant Ben Cunningham, a 27-year veteran of the Department. Sergeant Cunningham passed away following a possible medical episode while on duty in Rome, Georgia, and participating in a Law Enforcement Division physical fitness program.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and partners announced an agreement today to re-establish Pine Log Wildlife Management Area (WMA) and protect over 14,000 acres that made up most of the former northwest Georgia WMA prized for outdoor recreation, rare wildlife and imperiled habitats.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) State Parks Division announced that Stephen C. Foster State Park will officially be renamed Okefenokee State Park, effective September 1, 2026. Located within the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the state park serves as the Western Entrance to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and provides visitors with opportunities to experience North America’s largest blackwater swamp.
